Short update

Well i am just a little bit behind. I have finally got back to my quilting and just started hand quilting on the fan quilt.

It has just been so hot here it makes it hard to do things. I am ready for cooler weather. These 100+ degree days is bad. All my grass is dead and a lot of my outside plants too. My muscadine grape vines is the only thing we water and they look ok. Have a few grapes on them.

Taz is growing like a weed he is now 8 months old and weights in at 4 1/2 pounds. Still fast. Yep i still can't catch him.

My hubby got sick on me but is ok now. My daughter has been real sick with stomach problems and was in the hospital. Still sick and now getting second opinion. I had my grandkids while my daughter was in the hospital. My fun time.

So as you can see now i have to get back to my sewing.

Just a few pictures of our puppy. He is now 7 months old. He is at 4 pounds. Full of energy. Loves to sleep on his back.

Fan Quilt

Just finished this Fan Quilt top. It's now ready to start quilting.
Here is how to info for you.

These are the parts to put together. I sew the fan blades first.

You will need to press all the seams to one direction.

Next i sew the small end of the fan on.

Yes i do pin. Start in the middle then the ends.

Nest is the large background. Again i do pin. The same as the small end. There is a short video on my Ustream page.

I like to sew with the seams on top so i can make sure the seam
stays going the right way when it goes under the needle.

After sewing again press the seam. Square up your block.
I decided to add a black border around each fan at 2 1/2 inches. I also added the same black to the outside border at 6 inches. You can do yours any way you like. I think the black brings out the colors in the fan blades. This Top fits the top of my King size bed.

Our new puppy

Just to catch you up on things; we have a new puppy and he keeps me busy.
He is 4 months old. Just 2 pounds 8 oz. Tiny and frisky.
I have been housebreaking him for the last 3 weeks and he is doing great.
The last 2 days we have left the water and food down all the time and no mishaps.
LOL that's not to say there won't be.
I am not sure how i am doing cause he is taking a lot of my time but he is worth it.
here are a few pic's Hope you enjoy.

Oh we named him Taz and boy does that fit him. Eat you up one minute and lick you to death the next. Just so loveable.

Howdy everyone. Just a little update. With the holidays and wedding and Birthdays and home improvement done its time to get back to my quilts.

I really needed the down time. You know sometimes real life gets going to fast; so slow it down and enjoy family and friends and even that quiet moment that is way over due.

Well i am back to work. I have finally got the hexagon quilt in the frame. Doing the hand quilting. I am sure it will be loved. (pic already on blog)

Thought i would let ya'll see what i am working on its not done.
Got behind with Thanksgiving and birthdays and my oldest sisters wedding but i will get it finished during late Jan 2011. Got to hand quilt it. The hexagons are all hand sewed together. It is basted and ready to go in the frame.

Customers Nine Patch

Just finished this Nine Patch. The customer put this top together. I hand quilted it for her. I love the older fabric's in this quilt. Love all the reds too.
Got more quilts going. Just takes a while to finish them. Will post more pic's later.
Hand sewed Binding.

This is the back of the quilt. Hand quilted 4 inch squares.

Place Mats Part 2

Here is the second part of the Place mats.

Cut your batting and back about 1/2" larger than the front. Lay out as in picture and sew 1/2" around leaving an opening to turn the right side out. Trim close after sewing and before you turn it.

Now you are almost done. After you turn to the right side you need to close the open end. I sewed around mine with 2 rows of stitches. To finish stitch in the ditch.
All done. I made this set of four and gave it to my sister-in-law. (she loved it)
Feel free to copy and paste and make your own set with fabric you love.

Hot Hot Hot. The weather that is.
Spent the last two weeks with my grandkids. Love having them around me.
They teach me things and i teach them things. Fun Fun Fun. I love it.

Well now its back to my sewing and other projects.

During June I did a lot of hats and footsies. Just late getting them on my blog.

I also made Place Mats for the 4th of July along with other things i have been working on.

Now back to posting Pic when projects are done. Maybe i can catch up. LOL

What i have been up to lately.

Howdy everyone. Well its been a little while so i thought i would catch you up on what i have been doing. First i got sick. (now better) Second we just had a vacation.We stayed close to home; but had a blast. Now i guess its back to sewing and quilting along with other projects. You know all of us quilters have more than one project going at a time.

Still working-Update

Just a little note to let you know i have been making crochet hats and footsie's for everyone. I have gotten a little behind on my quilting but i will get back to it.

Took a little break from the computer. I really needed it. Had problems with my DSL which was due to my provider. SO i guess it was the perfect time for my break.

Now time to get back to my quilting. I am working on the one i last told you about. Got all the fabric's cut. Now got to make some bias strips for the trim around the flowers. Then i might be ready to sew this one together. Pic's when i get it done. May be a little while cause there is a lot of sewing to do.

Howdy! Thought i would update with pic's of what i have been making. You know those little projects that come up. These are crochet-ed hats for my grandkids. One for my sis for her birthday and a dress for my granddaughter for her birthday that's what she wanted. All taken on my camera i got for Christmas. hope you enjoy. If you look under some of these pic's you will see the parts of the quilt i still have to cut out. These are all the flower parts.

First Quilt project for 2010

Well the holidays are over . I hope each of you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope the food and company was a special time for you. I was lucky to spend time with my family. I received a new Digital camera and a Flip Cam for Christmas. My family knew what i wanted and blessed me with it. Now i think i am special. LOL! Now i have no excuse not to take pictures to share with you all.

Well now its time to get back to my love of quilting. I have started cutting out one. It will take me longer to make this one. Its going to be a queen size. Will be beautiful when done. The pattern is of a wall hanging but i have chose to make it into a quilt. Here is the picture from the book. Can you see all the flowers each one has to be cut out. That's what i am doing now. 4 buds /4pedals and 4 green pedals for each block. So if i am making a queen i will need OMG almost 2,000 little pieces. So if you don't here from me for a little bit you will know what i am doing.

Oh yeah i did make a few little things for my Granddaughter. She is into scarf's. She wants me to make her a flowing dress for her Birthday. Well you know how Grandmom's are. We try to please and spoil them rotten. :D that's me. Will add pictures later cause they are still on my camera.

Panel Quilt Raggedy Ann & Andy

This Baby Quilt is made from a panel. I quilted around the character real close with metallic thread. The thread does not show up good in pictures. I guess it is my cheap camera. Then i quilted around the squares and the center. I am going to hand quilt hearts in the squares where it is just background. Then it will be finished.

This is for my new niece for Christmas.

Car's Quilt

This little Twin Car's Quilt was made from a panel. All i did was add borders. Really fun to make. The back is striped together with 2 car fabric's. I did some machine quilting and i also tied some areas. I stitched around the car and truck cause i wanted them to puff out. This one is for a little boy age going on two. This is laid out on a queen size bed so you can see my twin size is bigger than most. I like to make them big enough that kids can grow up with the quilt. I still need to do a little more quilting in the upper and lower gray area. Then this quilt will be finished.

With Christmas around the corner i am going to be making gifts for family members. Yeah my mind is full of idea's ; but i have 1 baby quilt to make first. (my new niece) I will pit a pic up when it is done.

Coke Purse for my sis for Christmas

This was my little project for the week end. Most of my family will get gifts i make for Christmas so i thought i would share this one. My sis collects coke stuff so i think she will like this.

Well having no pattern i got out my favorite thing to use (Reynolds freezer paper) and started drawing till i got one i liked. Here it is so feel free to make yours.

Step1 I cut out the front (coke) and back (black) then some Fusible Fleece. Two for front two for the back. Pressed as the directions say.
Step 2 Then place right sides together and sew together. I used a regular stitch around the outside edge then turned it right side out: pressed again. ( DO NOT SEW THE OPENING ON THE HANDLE) That's the cut out hole.

Step 3 Handle part is next. Around the handle i used a zig-zag. Anyway this makes it thick and strong.

Step 4 I wanted inside pockets so i cut out squares 2 Coke & 2 Red. Sew one Coke to one one Red; turn and press. (i just measured the with of the purse and cut my squares about 2 inches smaller). Step 5 On the inside of one side of the purse i places one and stitched it in place making sure it was in the middle and touching the bottom. Repeat the for the next side. (Please note no Fusible Fleece)

Step 6 Measure the sides from the handle hole to the bottom add 1 inch. Cut your fabric for the two outside sides. Make with the size you want Sew with 1/2 inch seam. (mine is 5 inches). Turn and press again no fleece. (Don't forget to leave an opening to turn it)

Step 6&7 are the hardest because of the thickness..... Place the sides on then the bottom sewing slow slow. Did i say slow. I broke two needles. LOL
Yes i used pin's. Do the bottom the same way.
Mine is done and i sure can make improvements if i make another one. But for now i just hope my sis likes it.

Dora Quilt for Christmas

The last couple of days i have been working on Christmas gifts for family members. I work on theses in between customers quilts. I have a new niece she is almost a year old. Well i decided to use up my scrapes from other quilt projects. So yes i did another Dora Ragged Quilt so i will not explain the making of it. I have already done so on my blog. I also put in a few I Spy's that were left overs too. On the back of this quilt i made rows of one color then alternated with another color. " Gota love left overs". Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I Spy Ragged Quilt

Today i am trying to catch up with my blog. I made 2 of these twin ragged I Spy quilts. My hubby came home from work and asked me to make them for 2 little girls. After hubby told me there story i told him yes. Anyway i made both of these before i made Dear and Tootsie's quilt but i kinda got ahead of myself on posting to my blog.
This is the first one it has Dora/Tweety/Princess/ and other cartoon's squares in it. This quilt was made for the youngest girl.

The second quilt was made the same without the cartoon squares because she is a little older. I think they share the same room so i wanted them to look the same but yet different.
these are done except i have to do the clipping then wash them to start the rag effect.
I will try to explain how i made them so here goes:

First i cut out the squares for the top/batting/and backing all the same size.

Then the sewing started. 1 top square laid onto the batting and backing. Since the squares were small i quilted them together with an X through the layers of each square. Just make sure the top is facing you and the back is away from you.

Next is a little harder to explain. You take 2 quilted squares and have the back side of each square facing each other: you will be looking at the right ride (top) You will sew the 2 squares together from the top side so that the seam is on the top side of your square. 1/2 inch seam. Now when you open this up the back will be finished and the top will have the seam showing. Thats when you know you did it right. You did good. This is what it should look like.

Its a little confusing at first but if you pay attention it becomes a habit. I sewed squares together to make a row across then placed them on the bed so i could see if i liked it that way. I continued to do the rows till it was ready to connect the rows together the opposite way.

After all your rows have been sewed together i sewed all around the outside of the quilt 1/2 inch from the edge to give it strength.The last 2 things to do is clip all layers in between each square about a 1/2 apart but do NOT clip through the stitching. Then last but not least wash and dry to start the ragging effect. Oh Yea clip the outer edge the same way. No Binding unless you want to ad one.

Making Dear & Tootsie's Quilt

For those who don't like to click links this is the quilt I made for Dear & Tootsie. It is a king size and i did the quilt as you go method.

I have for many years done this method all by hand but this was the first time i did all the work on my regular sewing machine. How cool and faster. See below for instructions.
First i cut squares from each of the fabrics.(8 1/2 inches) Second i cut the strips (purple & orange) at 2 1/2 inches. I then sewed one color strip around each square. (as you can see i alternated the colors) This made the square 10 inches. Check your square and square it up if needed.
After sewing all the squares i cut the center batting from cotton fleece (you use what you like) and the backing to 10 inches. Sewing an X shape through each square to quilt the layers together.
Now i did lay my squares out on the bed to get them in the order i wanted. I take paper and number each row and pin it to the square so that when i sew i can keep them in order.
This step may be confusing. To sew the squares together into rows these are the steps i did. (1) see the green strip on top: it is cut 2 1/4 inches wide then pressed in half. The purple strip for the back is cut at 1 1/4 inches (no fold).
Place the top folded strip on top (front side)of square with raw edge lined up with the edge of your square. Take the back strip and place on the bottom of square right side facing up. Sew 1/4" seam through all layers.
Now you open it up. The purple on the back will be sewed to the next square by placing the back of the next square to the right side of the purple strip. see pic below.
You will always be placing right sides of your fabric together.

That for me is the hardest part to explain but there is a reason. When you next open up the now two attached squares the back will be done. Now you are ready to finish the front. You can use any stitch you chose on your machine or you can straight stitch or hand sew the front closed. This is done by (see the green folded strip) it now will flip toward the second square so you can stitch it down. This step closes all the raw edges between the two squares.

You will continue to do this to all your squares across each row. After each of your rows have been done across you will do the same thing to attach the rows in the opposite direction. I made my strips long enough to go The whole length. " yes i did use pins"

Dear and Tootsie's Quilt

Twin CheckerBoard Quilt

CheckerBoard Quilt (Twin size)
This quilt was fun to make. It is made from a nine patch pattern. First i cut different sets of colors to make two sets from each color. My strips were cut at 2 1/2 inches. Sewed together with 1/4 inch seam.

Then cut them and stacked them into two sets. (cut at 2 1/2).

Great time for assembly line sewing. Sew all stacks into a nine patch. Press the seams away from the center. You should have two stacks of opposite's.

I chose cranberry/blue/purple for my colors but you can chose any colors you like. The main fabric was one with flowers. I pulled my colors from that fabric. The next step is done by sewing 4 nine patches together. (see pic below) Your block is now ready to strip together. I chose green and placed the flower fabric in the corners. The green strips are cut the same 2 1/2 inch. I chose the purple fabric for the binding.

I alternated each color set in each row. This quilt was stitched on the machine but i hand quilted it together. Should make any young girl happy.

Another Sun Bonnet Sue

This Twin quilt was sewed together on the machine then i hand quilted it. Takes longer than machine but still rewarding. I did not zig zag around the doll this time. I did a straight stitch about 1/8" from the turned under edge. (starched and pressed) After the dolls were sewed to the back ground fabric all i did was sew a border around the square. Sewed all the squares together alternating the different color bonnets. This little quilt is reversible. On the back i cut squares out of the fabric i used on the front alternating the colors. For batting in the middle i used flannel. This quilt should be softer each time it is washed. The hand quilting don't show. I used matching thread. Used a straight stitch nothing fancy. Dora Quilt Easy

Dora Quilt Top

Today i finished the Dora quilt top. It still has to be quilted but i thought i would give instructions on sewing it together for anyone who is interested. Well here goes. I will just use steps.
Step 1 chose your fabric. Cut your squares mine are 4 1/2 inches. I cut out the little Dora's. (thats called fussy cut)

Step 2 cut strips 2 1/2 inches wide in colors that match your fabric.
Step 3 sew one color strip to your square first down each side then across the top and bottom. Your square should look like pic.

Step 4 make as many as you need for your size quilt.
Step 5 Press all squares. I laid mine out in rows then pressed one row all up the next row down so that when i sewed the rows together the seams match up nice and snug. This really helps. It also helps to pin a note to each row as follows row 1 down, row 2 down and so on. This helps keep things organized and makes the next step easier.

Step 6 Sewing the rows together. I sew each block across in row 1 first. Do each across 2,3,4, till finished. Next i lay each row out in order (keep the # on). Again i press one row one direction and the next row the opposite. Next you will repeat except in the opposite. Sewing row 2 across to row 1. Sew row 3 across to row 2 continue till you have all the rows together.Last i put different size borders color and strips around mine. You can put as many as you like. Do it your way. Here is the finished top.

Welcome Back. Her are the two latest quilts i just finished. They were to be alike but yet different. I really enjoyed making them.

I used a zigzag stitch to sew each doll to the background fabric than framed them with different color fabric. This quilt can be sewed by hand. Hope you enjoy.

The making of my sis quilt

This is a quilt i decides to make for my baby sister for her 30th anniv. I ordered the pattern from www.phillipsfiberart.com called Rings That Bind. Same as the Wedding Ring Pattern. Cheryl Phillips and Linda Pysto did a beautifull job putting this book together. The pattern is broke down so it is easy to follow.
Well after buying there pattern i got busy and put this quilt together. My sisters 30th wedding annv was in Nov. And she came to visit. I placed this quilt on the bed she was to sleep on: so it would be the first thing she saw when entering the room. Shock!! She loved it. Here are a few pic's i hope you enjoy. (Front and back )
